Engagement
Product Management: sales/dev alignment and delivery
Duration
2 years

Context

bpost is Belgium's national postal operator. I joined the Sender team as its first product manager, at a point where teams were siloed, discovery was non-existent, and a language barrier between business and engineering left sales and development pulling in different directions. Misunderstandings kept piling up, with no product practice to hold it together.

What we did

I introduced discovery and put a shared language between business and engineering at the centre of how the team worked. On the product side I delivered two things: a digital version of senders' paper leaflets that gave recipients direct access to the coupons inside to redeem in store, and API tooling that simplified tracking-barcode range reservation and follow-up.

Beyond the team, I led the product management chapter, working closely with the Agile Coaches to align 80 product managers on a common practice.

Outcome

Team velocity doubled and the escalations between sales and development disappeared. Across the chapter, product managers adopted shared tools, Jira and Gantt, and harmonised their documentation, so work could be shared easily across 900 IT staff and 80 product managers.

What lasts

A product practice that outlived my time there: discovery as a habit, a shared language between business and engineering, consistent tooling, and documentation harmonised across the organisation.

What people say

Before I met you, I saw IT as another planet, populated by aliens speaking a language I couldn't understand. You changed all that: explaining complicated things simply, with integrity, involved well upstream of development, and always attentive to the end-to-end vision, customer needs and operational processes included.
